Career Counselling at Army Public School, Gangtok

A career counselling session was recently conducted at Army Public School, Gangtok, under the auspices of the Career Counselling Cell, FHSS&LA, SMU on 3rd September 2025. The initiative targeted pupils in class IX and X to provide guidance regarding academic and professional pathways, particularly within the fields of commerce and the social sciences. The activity was in response to the letter from the Principal of Army Public School requesting to conduct one career counselling session for the students of class IX and X.

Dr. Aditya Rai and Mr. Sumeet Agarwal led a comprehensive presentation outlining the value of commerce subjects, the structure and significance of the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree, and the diversity of career opportunities thereafter. The session addressed higher education pathways, professional qualifications, the advantages of skill development, entrepreneurial prospects, and the potential for stability, earnings, and global recognition in this area.

Further points of discussion included opportunities in both the government and private sectors. The presentation concluded with a recapitulation of key ideas, practical suggestions for students’ future steps, and an overview of FHSS&LA at Sikkim Manipal University.

Faculties from SMIT provided information concerning placements and courses relating to medicine, paramedical sciences, and engineering, available through SMIMS and SMIT campuses. At the close of the programme, contact details were exchanged with teachers and the Principal in order to facilitate future campus visits and additional sessions for students. Informative brochures were distributed to participants.

In summary, the entire experience proved both productive and highly rewarding.
