Entrepreneurial Development Cell (EDC)

Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences & Liberal Arts — Activities 2024–2025

About the EDC

The Entrepreneurial Development Cell (EDC) was established to encourage students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. Though it had been functioning informally since 2017, the EDC was officially inaugurated on 2 December 2019 within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Liberal Arts.

“Let’s Talk” is a signature platform organised under the EDC where local and regional entrepreneurs are invited annually to share their journeys and inspire students.

B.Com. Business Project (3rd & 4th semesters)

B.Com. students undertake a hands-on business project during their third and fourth semesters. They conceptualise and manage small-scale ventures to gain practical experience in entrepreneurship. The project includes a step-by-step process: idea generation, market testing, pilot surveys, sample product creation, proposal submission, and final presentations.

Idea-generation techniques introduced

  • Brainstorming
  • Mind mapping
  • The SCAMPER technique
  • Blue-sky thinking
  • First-principles thinking
  • Questioning assumptions
  • Storyboarding
  • Analogy-based thinking
  • Market research
  • Role-playing

Activity Highlights — 2024–2025

Business Site Visits

Brainstorming Sessions

Interactive group brainstorming helped students refine ideas and form teams.

Teamwork & Role Plays

Students created sample products and role-played customer interactions to test concepts and refine product offerings.

Pilot Surveys & Proposals

Students conducted pilot surveys, tested sample products, submitted proposals, and presented their business ventures. Some teams are continuing to iterate on their ideas.

Final Presentations & Reflections

At the conclusion of the project, students present their ventures and reflect on the lessons learned through the entrepreneurial journey — covering planning, market testing, team roles, challenges faced, and future directions.
