The 5th International Yoga Day was organised by the Department of Physiology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Sikkim Manipal University in the Auditorium of the University on the 21st June, 2019. Prof KS Sherpa, Registrar, SMU; Brig (Dr) VK Mehta, Dean, SMIMS; Heads of Institutes, NSS-SMU Coordinator Mr. Madan Chhetri, and Mr. Uttam Kumar Upadhyaya, NSS Programme Officer; Faculty Members, Non-teaching staffs and the students of different units actively participated in the celebration of the Yoga Day. Shri Sonam Tshering Bhutia, an eminent Yoga Expert, who works in the Department of Power and Energy, Government of Sikkim attended the programme as instructor. A debate competition was also organised on the theme Benefits of Yoga vs. Exercise among the students to mark the occasion.
The International Yoga Day 2019 was also organised by the NSS unit of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in the Majitar campus under the initiatives of Mrs. Jhuma Sunwar. Faculty members, NSS volunteers and other students of SMIT actively took part in the said event. Further, 20 NSS volunteers from Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing, SMU along with 2 faculty members also participated in the State Level Yoga Day event, organised at Palzor Stadium, Gangtok, Sikkim.
