The Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences &
Liberal Arts (FHSS&LA), Sikkim Manipal University, in collaboration with
Research Forum India, successfully organized a One Day International Conference
on “Cooperative Management for Sustainable
Growth: Analysing New Dimensions of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”
on 20th May 2025 at the SMIMS Building, Gangtok.
Held in hybrid mode, the
conference brought together academicians, researchers, and industry experts
from across India and abroad, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue on
sustainable growth, cooperative management, and evolving perspectives on the
SDGs.
The conference began with the ceremonial
lighting of lamps and the national anthem,
signifying the formal inauguration. The welcome address with conference
concept note was delivered by Dr. Madan Chhetri,
Conference Convenor and Coordinator of FHSS&LA, setting the tone for the
day. The conference, attended by Honourable Minister Shri G.T. Dhungel,
Department of Health and Social Welfare and Culture, Government of Sikkim,
highlighted the government's commitment to inclusive and sustainable
development. The Inaugural Session
featured eminent personalities, including Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Dilip Chandra
Agarwal, VSM, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University,
Prof. Abhijit Dutta, Officiating Vice Chancellor of Sikkim
University and Prof G Singhai, Honourable
Vice Chancellor of Birangana Swati Satvi University. The release of
conference souvenirs and keynote address added gravitas to the occasion.
A rich Plenary Session
followed which was chaired by Prof. S.S. Mahapatra
and Prof. Kishor Kumar Das. The session featured
engaging talks from eminent speakers such as Prof.
Ganesh Prasad Das (Saudi Electronics University, UAE), Partha
Sarathi Mishra (Anmoy Corporation, USA), Dr.
Manju Rajan Babu and Dr. Mohammad Taqi
(Bahrain Polytechnic), Dr. Joanna Claire Miranda
(Malaysia), Dr. Debabrata Mitra, Dr. Shyamalendu
Chatterjee and Mr. Phadung Bhutia (CEO,
Sikkim Cooperative Union). Each speaker provided unique perspectives on the
evolving dimensions of SDGs, emphasizing global cooperation, innovation, and
inclusive growth. Their talks reflected a holistic understanding of
sustainability, integrating academic research with practical implementation
models.
The conference comprised seven
technical sessions, organised across parallel venues
wherein 53 papers were presented by the researchers from India and abroad. The
topics ranged from consumer behaviour, financial literacy,
rural entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability,
to gender studies and identity articulation.
The Valedictory Session
presided over by Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Dilip Chandra
Agarwal, VSM, featured an address by Dr.
Pramesh Chettri, followed by certificate distribution to the best
paper presenter. Dr. Aditya Rai, Associate Professor,
Department of Commerce delivered the vote
of thanks, expressing gratitude to the organisers,
collaborators, and contributors. Ms Deepa Sharma and Ms Basundhara Dahal moderated
the inaugural and plenary sessions of the conference.
The conference concluded successfully, achieving
its objective of fostering academic exchange and contributing to the discourse
on sustainable development through cooperative and inclusive practices.
