EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Freshers 2025 celebration at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology was held with remarkable exuberance on the evening of August 30th, 2025, at Marena. The much-anticipated event served as a vibrant introduction for the newest members of the SMIT family, blending tradition, creativity, and camaraderie in an unforgettable welcome. The festivities commenced promptly at 5:30 pm as the Emcee’s heartfelt welcome address set a warm and uplifting tone, extending greetings to the eager freshers, esteemed faculty, and distinguished invitees.
The lighting of the traditional diya, which followed immediately, was both symbolic and inspiring, an invocation of wisdom and auspicious beginnings that resonates deeply within academic traditions. The formal felicitation of the Director In-charge & Associate Director (Academics), SMIT, Prof. (Dr). Sangeeta Jha and Associate Director (Student Affairs), SMIT, Prof. (Dr). Pankaj Chettri added gravitas to the evening, acknowledging the institute’s leadership and their steadfast commitment to nurturing each new cohort.
Subsequent welcome addresses from the Associate Director (Student Affairs) and the Director In-Charge further motivated the freshers to embark on their journey with enthusiasm and a keen sense of purpose. A captivating welcome song by the musical club Chromatix filled the hall, infusing the atmosphere with excitement and a sense of belonging. The vigour continued with a dynamic dance performance from Nirvana, which captivated the audience and celebrated the cultural richness of campus life.
The event then saw freshers step into the spotlight with a spirited ramp walk, dramatising their personalities and letting their individuality shine before peers and seniors. Interactive group games that followed fostered engagement and laughter, a crucial icebreaker strengthening bonds among newcomers and seniors alike.
The heart of the evening was the talent round, where an impressive array of performances unfolded between 6:30 pm and 7:15 pm. Students showcased diverse skills—singing, dancing, poetry, mimicry, and other acts, demonstrating both creativity and confidence on stage while earning enthusiastic applause from both the audience and the panel of judges. Further enriching the cultural tapestry, the dance troupe UDAAN delivered a powerful performance, succeeded by another stirring musical interlude from Chromatix.
The Question and Answer round provided an engaging platform for the freshers to share their perspectives, wit, and aspirations, marking a crucial interactive moment with the emcees and the jury. The variety continued with soulful singing by the group 5 Elements and a spirited dance presentation by Illusion, both of which stood out as artistic highlights of the evening.
Following the electrifying performances, anticipation filled the venue during the result declaration at 7:55 pm, as the most outstanding freshers were announced and celebrated for their talents, charisma, and memorable participation. The subsequent prize distribution segment formally honoured these students, recognising their dynamism and welcoming them into the SMIT tradition of excellence.
The evening’s official proceedings concluded with a brief yet sincere vote of thanks, acknowledging the tireless efforts of organizers, faculty, student coordinators, and every contributor to the event's success.
