Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) Celebrates National Sports Day 2025

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Majitar, came alive with energy and enthusiasm on 29th August 2025 as the Department of Physical Education & Sports proudly celebrated National Sports Day 2025. The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty, and staff in a vibrant display of sportsmanship.

A Day of Thrilling Competition and Teamwork

The campus buzzed with excitement as various sporting events unfolded throughout the day. Students participated in the Sac Race, Volleyball, and Tug of War, showcasing agility, coordination, and teamwork. These activities not only promoted physical fitness but also strengthened camaraderie among participants, emphasizing the values of collaboration, discipline, and perseverance.

A Call for a Healthy Lifestyle

The closing ceremony provided a reflective conclusion to the celebration. The Head of the Department of Physical Education highlighted the vital role of sports in holistic student development, stressing the impact of physical activity on mental and emotional well-being.

Adding to this, Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Chettri, Associate Director (Student Affairs), and Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Jha, Director (I/c), SMIT, encouraged students to embrace fitness as a daily habit. They promoted the motto: "Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Me" (One Hour on the Playground) - a powerful call to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.

In a thoughtful and sustainable gesture, winners and runners-up were felicitated with potted plants and traditional khadas instead of conventional trophies. This symbolic act blended achievement with sustainability, honoring growth, culture, and environmental responsibility.
