On February 28, 2024, the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) radiated with enthusiasm as it celebrated National Science Day with great warmth. Organized jointly by the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, along with the Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC) and the Entrepreneurship Cell (e-Cell), the event centered around the theme "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat."The guest of honour, Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Raman Kr Jha from The ICFAI University, Jharkhand, graced the occasion with his presence. In his speech, he emphasized the significance of indigenous technologies for the development of a progressive India.The event was attended by esteemed delegates, including the Director In-charge, Prof. Chandrashekhar Bhuiyan, Associate Directors, Heads of Departments, and participants from various schools across Sikkim, as well as B.Sc and M.Sc students. The festivities commenced with the ceremonial lighting of diyas, paying tribute to the pioneering scientist Sir C V Raman.In his address, Prof. Chandrashekhar Bhuiyan stressed
the importance of nurturing a scientific mindset among the youth to positively impact society. The day was packed with engaging activities, including quizzes, essay writing, debates, and puzzles, involving students from prominent schools such as P.M Shri Senior Gov. Secondary School, Majhitar Secondary School, East Point Senior Secondary School, Tadong School, and Mion Kidzee School. Amidst the spirited competitions, participants relished a delectable lunch featuring local delicacies and refreshments. The highlight of the event was the grand prize distribution ceremony, where deserving winners from various competitions were recognized with certificates and mementos. P.M Shri Senior Gov. Secondary School emerged victorious in the quiz competition, while Tandong School and Majhitar Secondary School secured the second and third positions, respectively. Overall, the National Science Day celebration at SMIT was a resounding success, fueling inspiration and empowerment among the budding scientists and innovators. It underscored the indispensable role of science in shaping a brighter future for humanity, highlighting its transformative potential in enriching lives and driving societal progress.
