The Freshers' Party for the new batch of first-year students was officially hosted by THE STUDENT COUNCIL of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, at the Marena Basketball Court on the 16th of September, 2023, to welcome all the new students who had joined the institution earlier this year. The event started off with the arrival of the chief dignitaries, including the Director, Prof. (Dr.) Gurdaman L. Sharma, the Associate Director (Student Affairs), Prof. (Dr.) Anand P. Tiwary, and the Associate Director (Academics), Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Jha, at the Marena Basketball Court. Soon afterwards, the judges for the event, Dr. Jyotika Sharma, Ms. Soumili Bishnu, and Prof. Dr. K. Premoda Devi, also graced the occasion with their presences. This was swiftly followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamps, which instilled a sense of pride and unity among the attendees. After this, the Director, Prof. (Dr.) Gurdaman L. Sharma, followed by the Associate Director (Student Affairs), Prof. (Dr.) Anand P. Tiwary, addressed the crowd with their inspiring speeches. After this, Aadarsh Sharma presented a heartfelt welcome song by audience. Right after this, the Mr. and Ms.Freshers' 2027 Contest kicked off, where the eight finalists; namely, Sarup Tiwari, Tenzing Choden Bhutia, Tshering Bhutia, Maitri Chanda, Shasank Chettri, Rajnandini Devi, Shahidul Islam and Aastha Sewa, battled it out for the prestigious titles of Mr. and Ms. Freshers' 2027, respectively.
The contest consisted of 3 rigorous rounds; namely, a ramp walk round, comprising of both solo and couple ramp walks, a talent round, and a Q&A round. In between the rounds, Udaan, one of the dance clubs under SMIT, also performed an energetic dance for the audience. This was soon followed by an interactive ice-breaking session, hosted by the Master and the Mistress of Ceremony; namely Mohak Das, and Torsha Guha. This was done in an attempt to bridge the gap between the senior and the junior students, such that there could be an easygoing dynamic between them going forward. Soon afterwards, the contest reached its end, and the results for it were announced, with Sarup Tiwari emerging as Mr. Freshers' 2027, Tenzing Choden Sherpa as Ms. Freshers' 2027, Tshering Bhutia as Mr. Freshers' 2027 Runners-Up, and Maitri Chanda as Ms. Freshers' 2027 Runners-Up, respectively. The event was concluded with an official vote of thanks, delivered by Aaryan Vats. Thereafter, a special dinner was organised at the Marena by the college for all those who were involved in this event in any capacity, including the first-year students, and the organising committee, bringing the event to an extremely successful conclusion.
Thanks to the guidance of the Student Council, and the valuable contributions of the backstage teams, including the decoration team, the technical team, and the security team, the event, all in all, ended as a huge success, marking a new chapter in the lives of the first-year students.
