5th June 2023: NSS SMU observed the World Environment Day 2023 today with the participation of volunteers from SMIMS, SMCON, SMCPT, MHA and Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts. After a briefing session in the morning, the team went to the Lumsey area and conducted the following activities:
- Nukkad Natak (Street Play) on the theme of Plastic and its ill-effects creating awareness among the people.
- Awareness Campaign about the minimal use of plastic to avoid and beat plastic pollution. The theme of beat plastic pollution was delivered with emphasis on reduce, recycle, and reuse through short speech & poetry recitation from NSS Volunteers.
- Cleanliness Drive in the vicinity of Lumsey and towards Saraswati Mandir at 5th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok.
Dr. M. Chhetri, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Sanjay Kumar & Mr. Uttam Kr Upadhyaya, NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Sandhya Gurung, Dr. Rahul & Mrs. Rinchen Gensapa, NSS Nodal Officers of SMCON, SMCPT & MHA were present during the event. Altogether, 65 SMU NSS volunteers from SMIMS, SMCON, SMCPT, MHA and Humanities & Social Sciences department actively participated in the events.
